About Grand Master Bin Sheng Xiao

Grand Master Xiao started his training in Wushu at the tender age of five. Over the years and thanks to the guidance of various masters, including Zhang Wen Guang, the most venerated and foremost authority in China on Wushu, Jet Li, famous from numerous Hollywood and Hong Kong movies, received similar guidance from Wu Bin, a well known coach in China who in turn received his training from Zhang Wen Guang.

Grand Master Xiao became proficient in numerous styles of Wushu, both Traditional and Contemporary as well as Qi Gong and San Da (Free Fighting). In 1984 he graduated from the Wushu program at the Beijing Physical Education University in Beijing with a Bachelor degree in Physical Education, majoring in Wushu.

Prior to coming to Canada, he was a Chinese National Wushu Coach and in this capacity has trained many athletes in the national teams of Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand.

In 1987, Grand Master Xiao was invited by the Overseas Chinese Voice in Vancouver, Canada, to teach Wushu, Taiji and Qi Gong. In 1990 he settled in Vancouver and established his own school, Sino Fitness Institute. Since then he has trained numerous students from all across Canada. He has been head coach of the Canadian National Wushu Team and participated in the judging of Wushu competitions at both the National and International level, such as the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th World Wushu Championships.

Grand Master Xiao was appointed by the International Wushu Federation as an Independent Judge for the 8th and 9th World Wushu Competitions, the only person appointed twice in consecutive years in all of North America.

In 2004 Grand Master Xiao was certified by IWuF as an A-level International Judge, the first person in Canada to be awarded this highest level of judging certification.

Chronology

Born in Harbin, China. Bin Sheng Xiao started his training in Chinese Wushu at the age of five. The most outstanding of his coaches were the famous Zhang Wen Gang professor of Beijing University of Physical Education, Professor Zhang Guang De, creator of the DAO YIN YANG SHENG GONG, and Zhang Ji Xu the top authority in Tai Ji.

Today, Bin Sheng Xiao has become an authority in numerous styles of Chinese Wushu, both traditional and contemporary, as well as weapons, Tai Ji, Qi Gong, and San Da (Free Fighting). A great number of his students have become prominent coaches at universities and national Wushu teams of many countries.

1974 -1976

All-around Champion at the provincial Heilongjiang Wushu competitions for three consecutive years.

1976

Champion of the spear and Shaolin sword at the highest level of Chinese professional Wushu competitions

1982 - 1987

Visiting Wushu Coach of Shaolin Temple of Songshan, Henan Province of China as well as Cangzhou, Hebei Province of China (Wushu’s hometown).

1982

Champion of San Da 60 KG competition which was the first San Da competition in China.

1983

All-around Champion in the National University Student Wushu Competition.

1984

Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education with a major in Wushu from Beijing University of Physical Education. It was the first Physical Education of Wushu Degree awarded in China.

1990

Established his own school - Sino Fitness Institute. Students have come from all over Canada as well asUSA, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan.

1997

Judge and Head Judge of the Canadian National Wushu Team present Selection Competition and Canadian National Wushu Open Competitions.

2000

Certified as Coach of “Wushu new style” by IWuF.

2001

Coach of Canadian National Wushu Team participating in the 6th World Wushu Championship in Armenia. Canada won many prizes.

2001

Certified as an International Judge by IWuF.

2003-2007

Independent Judge appointed by IWUF at the 7th ,8th, 9th and 10th World Wushu Championships.

2004

Vice-president of WUSHU CANADA, Confederation of Canadian present Wushu Organizations

2004

Certified as an A-level International Judge, the highest level of judging certification by IWuF.

2005

Designated the “Most Venerated and Foremost Authority on Wushu by WUSHU CANADA, the Confederation of Canadian Wushu Organizations.

2006

Designated “Contemporary Chinese Elite in Martial Arts Field” by Chinese International WushuResearch and Developing Organization.

2006

Head Coach of the Canadian National Wushu Team” at the 2nd World Traditional Wushu Championship. The Canadian team won over 30 medals.

2007

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Appointed by the International Wushu Federation as only Judge from North America to officiate at the Beijing 2008 Wushu Tournament.

Grand Master Xiao MARTIAL ARTS AND SPORTS FITNESS CLUB

Marks an ambitious plan to expand his school in order that more students may be provided the opportunity to draw from Grand Master Xiao’s 40 years of unique achievements and accomplish- ments in the ancient discipline of Wushu.
