Bin Sheng Xiao - Founder, President & Chief Instructor

  • 2004    Certified as an A-level International Judge, the highest evel of judging certification by IWuF.
  • 2005    Designated the “Most Venerated and Foremost Authority on Wushu by WUSHU CANADA, the Confederation of Canadian Wushu Organizations.
  • 2006    Designated “Contemporary Chinese Elite in Martial Arts  Field” by  Chinese International Wushu Research and Developing Organization.
  • 2006    Head Coach of the Canadian National Wushu Team” at the 2nd World Traditional Wushu Championship. The Canadian team won over 30 medals.
  • 2007    Chairman of West Region Canadian Wushu Association.
  • 2008    Appointed by the International Wushu Federation as only Judge from North America to officiate at the Beijing 2008 Wushu Tournament.

The above are some of the recent achievements of Grand Master Bin Sheng Xiao. Wushu embodies a profound philosophy and a keen sense of human life and social values. It’s emphasis on traditions, experience and rational knowledge has become the lifelong passion of Bin Sheng. He is dedicated to the encouragement of self-improvement and personal development through focused training. “The practice of martial arts requires steadiness and persistence.   • 2002   Level 7 instructor’s Certificate by the Canadian Confederation of Wushu Organizations.

Matthew enjoys both practicing and teaching Wushu. He began studying Wushu under Grand Master Xiao in 1989, when only 9 years old. His favourite Wushu style is Di Tang Quan. Matthew feels that through practicing Wushu, he has developed the confidence and discipline needed for everyday challenges. He also states that teaching has helped him become a more caring person and a better martial artist.

Thomas has been practicing Wushu since 5 years of age.. He enjoys practicing Wushu due to its variety of forms and styles. “ It has helped me develop components of physical fitness including: balance, flexibility, coordination, kinetic awareness, speed, and power. Wushu has become an integral part of my lifestyle”

Ben Yip - Instructor

  • 1996-2001 various medals in local and national Wushu competitions in both Contemporary and    Traditional Wushu, including Empty Hand Forms and Weapons

Ben has been practicing Wushu under Grandmaster Benson Xiao for over 15 years. As a young boy, he was intrigued by the movements of Jackie Chan’s and Jet Li’s on-screen fighting and the form and speed of Bruce Lee. Ben’s discipline and determination has given him great success and awards since his first Martial Arts competition in 1996. Ben continues to train hard and shares his time teaching students under Grand Master Xiao.

Catherine Yip - Instructor

Catherine started Wushu for fun and to stay active. Now she also does Wushu because it motivates her to push the limits through sports and other aspects of life.

Cyrus Cheng - Instructor

As a youngster Cyrus loved watching Jet Li movies. One of the first Students of Grand Master Xiao in Canada, Cyrus found his involvement with Chinese Martial Arts immensely useful in learning how to overcome challenges, be it physical or mental. Cyrus is presently studying commerce in the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia “Not only have I improved my physical condition, but also life in general. I have gained discipline, determination, patience and purpose through Wushu, especially with the help of Grand Master Xiao”.

Daven has dedicated a large portion of his time to Wushu, both Traditional and Contemporary. His areas of expertise include straight sword, staff, and long fist.

Jackson specializes in long fist, broadsword, and staff. “Learning martial arts has taught me to challenge myself and set personal goals”.

Jessica has practiced Wushu for several years - and since 2006 also Tai-Chi. “As passionate as I am in mastering both the physical and mental aspects of Wushu, I am also devoted to sharing my knowledge and teaching with the younger students. By dedicating most of my time to Wushu under Master Xiao, I have gained much strength, self-confidence and discipline over the years”.

Nicholas Ho - Instructor

Angus is the youngest of the advanced students, his achievements in Wushu, however, belies his age. With several gold medals from local competitions and a silver medal from the World Traditional Wushu Championship in China, he is fast developing into a great martial artist. Angus trains hard in staff, broadsword, and long fist.
